Coordinator, Advising and Digital Learning — Orlando, FL
Academic Advancement Programs – University of Central Florida

Instated a new position as the coordinator of Graduate School Preparation Advising in Academic Advancement Programs, home of UCF’s Ronald E. McNair Scholars program. Developing an innovative advising structure with digital learning opportunities incorporated to create a culture of graduate school preparation and integrative learning at UCF main campus, downtown campus, and with online students.

Established a newly created position as the Coordinator of multiple L.E.A.R.N.TM programs. I am currently maintaining the existing model for first-time in college, or F-L.E.A.R.N.TM, living-learning community while also creating the new Transfer, or T- L.E.A.R.N.TM, model funded by the National Science Foundation.

Coordinator, Transfer Academic Initiatives & Pre-Transfer STEM Advising — Baltimore, MD

Pioneered newly created and dual-reporting position for the STEM Transfer Student Success Initiative (stemtransfer.org) funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Facilitated the creation of a comprehensive network of support in advising, and fosters a collaborative culture shift between UMBC and partner 2-year institution transfer advisors while ultimately better serving students’ transitions.

Established a newly created graduate position in University Housing & Dining by assisting in recruitment, selection, training, and development at three levels: professional staff, graduate staff, and undergraduate staff.

Smith, C.M. & Leal Toro, N. (2019). Pre-Graduate Knights Self-Directed, Online Program. First author on a $3,500 Quality Enhancement Plan grant to create an online, asynchronous learning opportunity for students to learn how to prepare for graduate school within an inclusive community.

Smith, C.M. (2019). Guide to grad school: Creating a digital and active learning curriculum for graduate school preparation. Awarded $1,000 McNair Promising Practices Institute Digital Learning technology grant to obtain equipment and software to enhance student success through innovative use of technologies and new pedological approaches.

Smith, C.M. (2018-2019). Individual development plans (IDPs) for undergraduate students. Author of an online article as part of the 2018 cohort at UCF for Enhancing Integrative Learning. $500 Quality Enhancement Plan grant awarded to each faculty and staff who completed the cohort requirements and online article for publishing.
